Editorial standards
How we decide what to publish and how we get it right.
Sourcing
- Every item links to at least one dated source. We prefer primary sources: county agendas and records, development filings, official releases, FDOT, the Sheriff's Office and RASM.
- When we rely on another outlet's reporting, we credit it by name and link to it, so readers can see the full story.
- We summarize in our own words and keep summaries short. We never copy other outlets' wording or use their photos.
- No rumors, speculation or unsourced claims. If we can't confirm it, we leave it out. Estimates are labeled as estimates.
- We don't run news older than two weeks in an edition, except in "Good to know."
Numbers
Budget, housing, crime and other figures match their source exactly, and we say what period they cover and when they were released.
Politics and elections
We report decisions, votes and candidates factually and even-handedly. We don't endorse candidates or ballot measures.
Crime and safety
- We report facts from police and court records and reputable news reports.
- We don't name victims or publish their addresses, and we don't identify minors.
- We don't publish mugshots, and we never charge to remove anything.
- An arrest is an accusation, not a conviction. We say "charged," not "did," and we'll note the outcome of a case when asked and when we can confirm it.
AI assistance
We use AI tools to help research and draft each edition. The editor reviews everything before it's published, and we're responsible for every word, including mistakes.
Independence
Palmarrish isn't affiliated with Manatee County, any city, developer or business we cover. We'll disclose any conflict of interest that bears on a story.
Corrections
We fix mistakes quickly and openly: the correction goes at the top of the item or in the edition, with the date, and it's listed on our corrections page. We don't quietly edit errors away. Report a problem to hello@palmarrish.com.
